Fukuoka --No1. City
in Asia Again! |
Asiaweek, one of the world's top ranking weeklies (published
in Hong Kong), has again chosen Fukuoka as the best city in Asia
in 1999 in its annual ranking event. It's no small news as it gave the
city the same position in 1997, not simply out of love at first sight
but through a very shrewd judging system that allocates points to all
the 40 candidates surveyed depending on their performance in 23 indicators
in the following categories: economic opportunity(total of 15 points),
quality of education(15), environment and sanitation(15), health care(15),
transport and communication(10), personal security(10), housing cost(10),
and leisure(10). Maximum score is 100 and Fukuoka got 73 this time, so
it's not just about economics or size, it's about the citizens' quality
of life.
You can now be assured that Fukuoka is the most livable city in Asia,
enjoying a growing reputation as Japan's exciting cosmopolitan trendsetter.
